The cultural exchange in agriculture field
The Taiwan Agricultural Youth Exchange Program is presently welcoming the applicants from the final year high school and first-year college students to enroll for their program. The program will go on for a week from the 26th of October to the 3rd of November of 2019; the students who have the passion and show eagerness will represent Kansas in the exchange program.
This is an annual event hosted by the National Taichung Agricultural Senior High School of central Taiwan for the students from the Midwest of United States. The chosen group of students will travel to Taiwan and visit agricultural institutions and business houses that are related to it. They will get deeper learning about the processes involved in Taiwan’s agricultural sector.
Students will learn Taiwan’s way of farming
Sage Collins, who participated in the program in 2018 said, “The entire experience was amazing. Immersing myself in a new culture, experiencing all the aspects of Taiwan and learning about their agricultural practices was an eye-opening experience for me.”
The Kansas economy majorly depends upon the agricultural exports to other parts of the county and the world. The export of agriculture products such as oilseeds, cereal grains, wheat flour, and beef to Taiwan reached around 129 million US dollars. The share of agricultural export in the Kansas economy has been about 3.6 billion US dollars in the year 2018.
The students who are selected for the program must be high school seniors or freshmen in college, must be of 18 years of age at the time of the tour, and should have an educational background in agriculture and a valid passport. The students have to bare their own air travel cost which is approximately 1,000 dollars.
The applicants must apply to the 30th of August to be eligible for the program. The exchange program is backed by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, Kansas 4-H, and the Kansas FFA Association.
