Shifting fast fashion around buzzwords ‘organic’, ‘natural’, and ‘green’
Clothing not just signifies how fashionable the wearers are but also helps them keep their skin healthy and free from diseases. However, the good has been paying its price where the fast fashion is continuously devastating to the environment, left humanity almost at the place of no return. Because of this many shifts, many turned eco-defender companies are aiming to be the force for change in their respective sectors. Hitting the list, the major fashion brand Zara has pledged to only source sustainable fabrics by 2025.
Today, the generation is highly motivated towards ‘conservation’, and the idea around ‘organic’, ‘natural’, and ‘green’ environment. Following the buzz, Zara, the Company aims to use 80 percent renewable energy for its headquarters, factories, and stores by the same deadline. The Guardian report says, Inditex is the third-largest apparel company in the world where Zara, the corporation’s largest brand accounts for 70 percent of sales, which totaled $29 billion last year.
Recycling, the need of the hour
Zara partners with charities, such as the Red Cross to distribute used stocks. The brand works with ubiquitous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to develop new ways to recycle fabrics. The earthy contribution of MIT includes a recyclable waste stream which is divided into several categories: Organics/Food Waste, Plastic Bags, Batteries, eWaste, Books, and Clothing. By pledging to improve their sustainability factor, a new precedent has been set for other large-scale fashion companies to follow.
MIT donates used or damaged clothing, textiles, shoes and even stuffed animals in one of two Bay State Textile bins on campus, located between Building 46 and Albany Garage or in the Westgate Lot across from Next House, Building W71. The facilities recycle even torn or damaged clothes and fabrics. Bay State Textiles collaborative to MIT, turning around communities with recycling bins. The company explains how- 45% of 21 billion pounds of textile can be reused that is thrown away in the United States only, every year. Moreover, 30% can be turned into wiping cloths, and 20% recycled into new products. They pay attention to impact and empower the society with sustainable fabrics, as they serve:
