Cyberpunk 2077 Developer Company ‘CD Projekt’ Hit by Ransomware Hack

Follow Us:

The company that developed the blockbuster game Cyberpunk 2077 has been hit by a ransomware attack.

In a post, its Twitter, CD Projekt – the Polish developers, shared the ransom note left by the hackers. The hackers have claimed the company has copied the source code for the studio’s biggest games including Cyberpunk and The Witcher 3.

The company put forth an official statement declaring, “Although some devices in our network have been encrypted, our backups remain intact. We have already secured our IT infrastructure and begun restoring data.” The company has decided to not give-in or negotiate with the actor as it would lead to the release of the compromised data. In order to mitigate the consequences, the company is taking all the necessary steps.

Sony and Microsoft offered refunds

Following the attack, both the companies—Sony and Microsoft removed Cyberpunk 2077 from their digital stores. In addition to the removal of the game, the companies offered refunds to all the unhappy customers since the game was nearly unplayable on base PS4 and Xbox One hardware.

What lacked in Cyberpunk 2077?

The city in the game is extremely packed. Moreover, since the old consoles do not have the excellent best disk bandwidth, the studio was constantly challenged. During the testing of the game, many of the issues were not shown which the players would experience later. Worldwide, the gamers were excited for the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 as the game was initially meant to be 3rd Person and have flying cars in it.

Despite the company started working on Cyberpunk 2077 in 2016, most of the staff was aware that the game wouldn’t be ready for release by 2020. Wall-running, flying cars, and car ambushes are just some of the features that were supposed to be a part of the game. However, these features were cut later. The police feature was actually added at the last minute.
